Google SEO ChecklistWhen choosing keywords, go for middle of the road. The top keywords for your website's topic are going to bring back hundreds of results in Google. Try to find keywords which are not as competitive. Do not use keywords no one would actually search on. Keywords should be as specific as possible. If your website sells fine porcelain dolls, choose "porcelain dolls" as the keyword, and not "dolls". If possible, be more specific, such as "porcelain dolls made in Sweden". More specific keywords provide a higher relevance in search engines. Include keywords in titles. All pages should have a title, and those titles should contain the most relevant keyword to the content. This is because Google places a great deal of value upon information tagged as a title. However, a title without content will not stand, so once you provide a title to a page, ensure the content follows through on the title's promise. Content should be optimized. There is nothing more important on the internet than content. It is what people come to sites for, and it plays a huge role in page ranking. Keywords should be incorporated into header tags. After keywords in titles, headers are the most important place for them. Ensure headers are enclosed in appropriate tags within the HTML or other programming so Google crawlers will know to look for information within. The higher level headers are more important than lower levels, so save keyword content accordingly. Embedded links should utilize keywords. When creating a link on one web page within your site to another page, you generally use something called anchor text. This is the word or phrase that readers click in order to move to the other page. You should always use keywords in this position. Even better is to use keywords which are included in titles or headers for the page to which you link. |
